Top 10 Things to Do in Pensacola Beach

Updated: Jul 14, 2020

Owning property (Our Beach House) in Pensacola Beach gives us a unique perspective on the TOP things to do in Pensacola! Here are our top picks!

10. RESTAURANTS. We LOVE to eat and when in FL we love to eat fresh, local seafood! My favorite is red snapper and gulf shrimp! Here is a few of our favorite places to eat...

*Peg Leg Pete's - It's a favorite of both tourists and locals. Right on the bay, they specialize in fresh seafood. The kids love it because there is a playground, the adults love it because it's yummy and because the kids have something to keep them occupied while waiting for a table...and there is ALWAYS a wait, but so worth it! They use the Yelp Waitlist app, so you can get in line on the app and know exactly how long of a wait you have! It's best noted to go earlier in the evening...we try to go about 5 pm.

*Shaggy's - We love Shaggy's - is a local restaurant located right on the marina in Pensacola Beach. Waterfront open air dining is my favorite and they have the best fresh, local caught seafood. It's a favorite of our entire family!

*The Wine Bar on Palafax - Josh and I love to have a glass of wine here! It's in the middle of downtown Pensacola right on Palafax. They have a large selections of wines, cheeses and meats to snack on and other small bites.

*McGuires Irish Pub - Definitely one of our favorite eatery's in Pensacola! It notably has the best steak I've ever had! The atmosphere is so fun! They have over $3 million one dollar bills hanging on their walls! This is the original location of McGuires! The kiddos love it too! There is usually a wait here as well! Go early and call first!

*Other notable places our family loves to eat - Hemingways, Crabs, The Fish House, Graffiti Pizza on Palafax, Nicks Boathouse.

9. Downtown. Pensacola has an amazing revitalized downtown area. Palafax is the main street that runs downtown. There are adorable boutiques, trendy eateries, wine bars, glamour bars, pilates studios, coffee shops, etc. I love spending an afternoon on Palafax! Downtown is always having one festival, show or event...check out the upcoming events here. We love taking pictures by the murals in downtown.

8. Fishing. We love Lucky Chucky Fishing Charters out of Navarre for inland fishing! And we love Hot Spot Charters out of Pensacola Beach for Pensacola inland fishing and deep sea fishing! Here are a few pictures from our fishing excursions.

7. Fort Pickens. If you're a history buff- specifically Civil War era, Fort Pickens is a MUST. Fort Pickens is a pentagonal historic United States military fort on Santa Rosa Island about 20 minutes from our beach house. It is named after American Revolutionary War hero Andrew Pickens. The fort was completed in 1834 and was one of the few forts in the South that remained in Union hands throughout the American Civil War. It is amazing to see the structures still standing and have the ability to physically walk through them. You can walk up and touch the cannons, walk through tunnels and just let your imagination run wild with what it was like back then. Here are a few pictures from our latest trip to Fort Pickens.

6. Joe Patti's Seafood Co. Joe Patti's Seafood Market is a must if you want to bring fresh seafood home or buy fresh seafood to cook back at the beach house. We're usually there once or twice through out our stay and it's always our last stop on our way out of town. it's an experience like none other with Frank Sr. leading the market with his humor and quick whit. It's truly a family affair. Check out the history of Joe Patti's Seafood Market here.

5. The Pier. This is one attraction we have yet to experience at Pensacola Beach. We can see the pier in the distance from the beach house and from the restaurants we love, but. have yet to fish from it. I do know that it has spectacular views and I always hear about the great fishing. The pier has a wide platform at the end of the pier so all ages can try their hand at “deep sea” fishing in the 20 ft. deep waters below. So if deep sea fishing isn't your thing, then you can fish from the pier and if you don’t have your own gear, you can rent from the on-site bait and tackle shop and they’ll happily tell you what’s biting and outfit you to get in on the catch.

4. Shelling. My ABSOLUTE FAVORITE thing to do on Pensacola Beach! I love finding treasures and sand dollars! Check out some of my favorite finds!

3. The National Seashore. We are exactly one mile from the entrance of the National Seashore directly past Portofino Resort. Miles and miles of sand dunes and beaches including a dog beach! From our beach house you can take a walk or jog direcly to the National Seashore. It's our favorite place to walk!

2. The Blue Angels and the National Aviation Museum. The Blue Angels are a staple in the Pensacola Beach community and on Tuesdays and Thursdays you can see flyovers directly on the beach in front of the beach house! It's just an amazing sight to see! Here are a few pictures we captured of flyovers.

1. The Beach. No words needed. Our beach house is a 30 second walk to the beautiful white sand beaches of Pensacola!
